Life at Mission Australia

Your Opportunity
The Darwin Sobering Up Shelter is a 40-bed facility providing overnight accommodation to people over 18, who are affected by alcohol or other drugs and are at risk of harm. Many of our clients are homeless or displaced and are brought in by NT Police or Larrakia Night Patrol from across the Darwin and Palmerston regions. Within this safe, supportive, and culturally respectful environment, we offer individuals the space to recover and connect with services that can support their long-term wellbeing.
As Support Coordinator, you’ll be part of a committed team offering practical, person-centred care across a rotating roster that includes day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
This is an on-site position, ideal for someone who is calm under pressure, self-motivated, and committed to supporting vulnerable members of the community through practical assistance and respectful engagement. You will bring steady, strong communication skills, and a hands-on approach to help ensure the Shelter remains a safe, supportive space for every person who walks through its doors.
This is a 24 hour service, therefore applicants must be available to work days, evenings, overnights and weekend shifts when required.

- Maintain standards of conduct for the service to contribute to the program success.
- General cleaning and maintenance of the common areas.
Requirements for Success
- Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, other relevant community services qualification or the ability to obtain the necessary qualification within 12 months.
- Previous experience in a similar position.

- Experience working with Aboriginal communities with an understanding and respect for the culture and protocols.
- Computer literate in Microsoft programs.
- The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team to provide positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated professional approach to maintaining professional boundaries.
- Current driver licence with no restrictions
